Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to electing conservation leaders, holding decision makers accountable, and encouraging lawmakers to champion conservation policies that effectively protect Wisconsin’s natural resources and public health.

Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters holds legislators accountable to their votes and engages in voter education, lobbying and issue advocacy. We also recruit candidates, issue candidate endorsements, and actively work for the election of candidates committed to strong and effective conservation policies.

Madison – The 2013 version of the open-pit mining bill released today is strikingly similar to last session’s AB 426 that was defeated. The new Open-Pit Mining Bill is a flawed, extreme, one-sided bill that will subject our waters to contamination from toxins like arsenic, lead and mercury.

Right now, some of the most pristine areas of Wisconsin are under threat by mining interests. For months, the mining industry and their supporters in the Walker administration have been working to pass legislation that would exempt the mining industry from almost every law that protects our water, public health and land.
